Experience Local Jordan

For this journey, I was invited by Leaders International  to experience their latest project in Jordan, ‘Experience Local Jordan.’

Leaders International is a global network of organizations specializing in improving the economy in developing countries and conflict-affected areas. Their main goal is to help people in these regions access the resources they need for a better economic situation. With ‘Experience Local Jordan,’ Leaders International focuses on sustainable and authentic travel experiences, guided by local communities in Jordan that are not as well-known.

And this just happens to be what I love to do the most. Packed and ready, I traveled to Jordan to explore the local Jordan together with other travel professionals. Based on my experiences, I designed a 7 day Jordan itinerary. This itinerary naturally includes the most beautiful landmarks and sights but also offers plenty of tips for unique, lesser-known activities that allow you to truly experience the local culture in Jordan.

Whether you plan to follow this itinerary by renting a car, using public transportation, or traveling with a group, I recommend checking out my blog with ‘10 Jordan travel tips you need to know before you go‘. Here, you’ll find everything you need to prepare your trip down to the last detail, including advice on traveling to Jordan, renting a car, driving in Jordan, public transportation, the best travel time, accommodations , must-try specialties, and much more.

The ultimate 7 day Jordan itinerary

If you’re planning to travel around Jordan and intend to visit many sights, don’t buy a visa, but get a Jordan Pass instead. This is much more cost-effective. When you purchase the Jordan Pass before arriving in Jordan and stay for a minimum of three nights (4 days), you’ll be exempt from tourist visa fees and can visit over 40 sights and landmarks. You can also find all the information about this in my blog with vacation tips for Jordan.

Exploring Jordan in 7 days is relatively short. That’s why, at each destination on the itinerary, I provide some suggestions for landmarks to visit or activities to do. Of course, you are free to do whatever you prefer. Below, you can follow the travel itinerary on the map. Are you ready for this exciting adventure?

Notably, Nabatean jewelry stands out from those of other ancient cultures as they did not feature images and relied more on refined techniques like patination and filigree work. You can seize the opportunity to participate in a workshop conducted by local craftswomen Fawziyeh Al Hassanat or Basma Al Hassanat, where you’ll learn the centuries-old Nabatean techniques to craft your own silver jewelry.

The Dead Sea, located at the lowest point on Earth (430 meters below sea level), is anything but dead! What makes this saltwater sea remarkable is its extremely high salt content, allowing you to effortlessly float. It’s like having your own personal floating pool. But that’s not all! The Dead Sea is also known for its therapeutic mud that is good for your skin and overall well-being. So, float on the water, lather yourself with mud, and pamper yourself in this unique saltwater oasis. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a spectacular landscape.

To float in the Dead Sea, you can choose to stay at a resort with access to the Dead Sea or visit one of the many local beaches.

Some tips for floating in the Dead Sea

Before you go floating in the Dead Sea, which is an absolute must-do in Jordan, it’s essential to be aware of some things. Definitely read these tips carefully before entering the Dead Sea.

  • Keep your head above water: Do not submerge yourself in the Dead Sea, as the salty water can enter your ears and cause irritation.
  • Enter the water gently: Walk slowly into the water and remain upright. The buoyancy is so high that you will naturally float, and it may take some getting used to.
  • Sunscreen and protection: The sun is intense in the region, so be sure to protect your skin with sunscreen and consider wearing a hat or sunglasses.
  • Apply mud: Treat yourself to a mud treatment. Most beaches offer mud in large pots. You can apply it to your body with your hands. Allow the mud to dry, then rinse it off in the Dead Sea. Your skin will feel incredibly soft afterward.
  • Rinse off after swimming: After swimming in the Dead Sea, it’s important to rinse off in fresh water to remove the salt from your skin.
  • Stay hydrated: The heat and salt content can lead to dehydration, so make sure to drink enough water.
  • Be cautious with open wounds: Avoid swimming in the Dead Sea if you have open wounds or cuts, as the salty water can be painful.
  • Watch the time: It’s recommended not to float in the Dead Sea for longer than half an hour.
  • Follow local instructions: If there are signs or local guidelines regarding swimming in the Dead Sea, be sure to follow them.
