About Sarah

I grew up in Zomergem, a small village close to Ghent in Belgium. As a child I went on vacation with my parents every year. From my mother I inherited the sense of adventure and the desire to discover new places. My father taught me to enjoy good, local food and to look for that little bit more luxury in the search for a perfect stay. These are still important attributes that I still carry with me when I travel.

Later I enjoyed traveling with friends. I also discovered my passion for photography. Everywhere I went I took my camera with me. Fascinated by travel, landscapes and culture, I studied to be a history and religion teacher. I didn’t like teaching in these subjects. That’s why I chose to work as a special education teacher. During my 11 years as a teacher, I also studied a master’s degree in educational sciences. I am a big believer in lifelong learning in every way possible. Over the years I also learned myself to photograph, edit photos, everything about social media marketing and SEO, and I also followed numerous courses on these subject.

Photography and social media became my creative outlet. And not much later this blog was added. These channels grew very fast and soon I was invited on press trips and I worked together with various tourist offices, hotels, PR offices, brands,… A new world opened up for me and I enjoyed it to the fullest.

‘How I made my passion my job

apple picking in Trentino

Because we travel so much and stay in the most unique accommodations, it started to itch to do something more with this. Since Jan (my fiancé) worked on the coast and wanted to move there, we decided to buy an authentic Belle époque villa in De Panne. We renovated this completely and rent it out partly as a holiday home called ‘Maison Botanique‘.

Due to the combination of working, studying, renovating and blogging, I found it increasingly difficult to maintain a healthy balance. My creative outlet faded into the background and this made me very unhappy. In 2021 I had to take some time to catch my breath. The doctor called it a ‘burn out’. I had never felt so bad mentally and physically, and realized I had to change something in my life.

I made a difficult decision not to start as a teacher in September 2021, but to develop my own business in which I  express my creative talents more. I decided to expand my existing range of social media and blog promotion offers with  content creation/photography for both travel professionals and personal brands.

The bucketlist

Since childhood I dream of traveling and discovering the world as much as possible. Luckily I found a partner who loves to travel as much as I do. At the start of this blog, we made a bucket list with places we would like to discover. And the more we go out to explore, the longer our bucket list gets. Because time and again we are surprised by new countries, regions and accommodations which make us want to experience even more. Follow along and see how we try to make our dreams come true.
