How to travel to Nendaz? 

From Belgium you can travel in various ways to the idyllic Nendaz in Switzerland, depending on your personal preferences. You may opt for an adventurous road trip by car, a relaxing journey by train, or a combination of a flight and train travel.

For those who prefer flexibility and the pleasure of their own vehicle, the car is an excellent option. From Belgium, you can follow the highways leading to Switzerland. This journey not only provides the freedom to make stops along the way and admire the beautiful landscapes but also allows you to plan the travel time according to your needs. The car trip covers 825 kilometers from Brussels and takes approximately 8 to 9 hours, depending on traffic and the number of stops.

An alternative, more sustainable option is the train. You can comfortably travel by train to Geneva and then transfer towards Sion, the nearest train station to Nendaz. From Sion, there are regular bus connections taking you to Nendaz, allowing you to enjoy enchanting Swiss panoramas along the way. The total travel time here is also between 8 and 9 hours.

For those who prefer flying, Geneva Airport serves as a convenient gateway to the Swiss Alps. The flight time is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Upon arrival, you can take the train from the airport to Sion, followed by a bus to Nendaz, reaching your final destination in a little over 2 hours. This combination of airplane and train offers an efficient and comfortable way to reach your destination.

How to get around in Nendaz? 

If you opt for to travel by train or plane and don’t have your own car during the journey, you can still choose to rent a car.

Tip: Reserve a rental car before you embark on your trip. I always choose Sunny Cars for this. The significant advantage of renting a car with Sunny Cars is that all insurances are already included in the price. This way, you won’t be faced with unpleasant surprises in the form of extra costs when picking up your car.

In addition, Nendaz has an efficient public transportation network, including regular bus services that connect the various villages along the route from Sion to Haute-Nendaz. These buses not only offer a practical way to travel from one place to another but also provide the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Furthermore, the streets of Nendaz are well-suited for pedestrians, with charming paths winding through the village, allowing you to discover the area’s charm at your own pace.

For those with less experience, the Printse area is better suited, providing opportunities to tailor routes.

Here, one-third of the slopes are blue, while over half fall into the red category. For adventurous skiers and snowboarders who seek challenges, there are black slopes. Up for a challenge then the yellow slopes might be something for you. A yellow slope is ungroomed black slope with numerous bumps, promising an extra thrill for experienced winter sports enthusiasts.

Additionally, Nendaz also offers opportunities off the slopes, with various freetracks for those seeking an extra dose of adrenaline.

I personally enjoyed the winter hike Bisse du Milieu. Unlike most irrigation channels that are inaccessible in winter, this one remains open thanks to careful preparation, with a flat path that is passable year-round up to Bleusy.

The starting point for this winter hike is approximately 200 meters past Nendaz Tourisme, opposite the “Pam” supermarket. Follow the clear signage and enjoy breathtaking views of Nendaz, the city of Sion, and the surrounding mountains along the way.

Sledding in Tortin, fun for everyone!

Sledding in Nendaz is an essential and enjoyable activity for both young and old. And that’s possible on the famous Tortin sledge run. Separated from the ski area, this Tortin sledge run extends over more than three kilometers, promising an exciting and fun ride for all ages.

For those who don’t have their own sled, there is the option to rent one from the sports shops in Siviez. Take the chairlift to Tortin as many times as you like and then zoom down, enjoying the winter beauty of Nendaz.

Every afternoon, the chef also presents an affordable daily menu, allowing you to savor the flavors of the region. And even for the little ones, a special Cheesy menu is available, featuring a half portion of the daily menu, ensuring they will also enjoy their lunch in this charming restaurant.


Of course, après-ski can’t be missing during a ski holiday. And they know that in Nendaz too, as there are several bars near the ski lift in Haut Nendaz where you can enjoy après-ski.

My favorite is without a doubt the Cheersbar on the terrace of Hôtel des Etagnes. Once you arrive at the bottom of the Tracouet ski slope, take off your skis and step into the bar. It couldn’t be easier, right?

At Cheersbar, you can enjoy a beer, Aperol, or another drink of your choice while overlooking the majestic mountains. The atmosphere is always super cozy, making it the perfect way to end a day on the slopes.

La Taverne de l’Alpée 

La Taverne de l’Alpée, located in the heart of Nendaz, is an excellent choice for a delightful meal with local flavors. Whether you’re with friends or family, this chalet-style restaurant offers an authentic and cozy atmosphere.

The menu is filled with Swiss delights, including fondues, rösti, and gratin dishes. La Taverne de l’Alpée ensures there is something for everyone.

On warm days, you can also enjoy your meal on the sunny terrace. A perfect spot to relax and indulge in local culinary delights.

Table d’hôtes ‘La Montagne
