Ghent is still one of my favorite cities in Belgium. I lived and experienced the best years of my life. Even though now that I live in De Panne near the coast, Ghent still holds a special place in my heart. It’s my favorite place-to-be for shopping, trying out new hotspots, and of course meeting up with friends. When I visit Ghent, I love staying till the early hours. Because I still have to drive an hour home by car, I prefer spending the night in Ghent. That’s why I am always on the hunt for unique accommodations where to stay in Ghent. Because sharing is caring, I’ll share my favorite 12 hotels to stay in Ghent right here.

1. 1898 De post
Are you looking for an authentic stay at a sublime location in Ghent? Then boutique hotel 1898 De Post is just the place for you. This hotel is located on one of the most beautiful spots in Ghent, the Graslei. Not only the location is phenomenal, but also the historic building in which this boutique hotel is located is breathtaking. By the way, this was the former post office of Ghent, but you might have guessed it based on the name of the hotel.
Staying in boutique hotel 1898 De Post is a real experience in itself. The hotel, the rooms and suites are decorated in such a way that you travel back in time to the heyday of the 20th century. Each room is unique and has its own story.
On the first floor the restaurant ‘The Kitchen’ is located, where you can enjoy a delicious American breakfast. Also the famous cocktail bar ‘Cobbler’ is part of this building. Here you can taste the most amazing cocktails in Ghent. And the stunning setting is a real bonus.
2. Yalo urban boutique hotel
Yalo Urban boutique hotel is the new, trendy hotspot to stay in Ghent. This trendy design hotel can be found in the Brabantdam, better known as one of the best shopping spots in the city. You’ll find many beautiful and exclusive boutiques there.
Yalo Urban boutique is a fairly recent hotel. With its contemporary, trendy design with an urban twist, this is definitely the place-to-be for trendy city trippers and foodies. In addition to sleeping in one of the beautifully decorated Rock and Roll rooms, you can also enjoy the luxurious cocktail and wine bar and restaurant 7 days a week. There, Ghent chef Sam d’Huyvetter prepares the most delicious dishes for you.

3. Ganda rooms & suites
Ganda rooms & suites is definitely one of the most charming hotels to stay in Ghent. This gem is located in the Houtbriel close to the Vrijdagsmarkt, Sint Jacobs and the Vlasmarkt, where many hip and cozy bars are located. In addition, it is also within walking distance of Portus Ganda, one of my favorite places in Ghent.
This charming hotel is housed in a beautiful 18th century mansion. You can still find many original elements of the house in the entire building, including rooms and suites. The current furnishing and decoration ensures that these elements are accentuated, which definitely contributes to a unique atmosphere.
In the spacious lounge and terrace you can enjoy breakfast. During the day you can have a coffee or tea here, and at night an apéro such as a nice wine or a local beer.
4. Nonam boutique hotel
Nonam Boutique Hotel is located in the heart of the historic center. It’s situated in the neighbourhood Patershol, the tastiest neighborhood in Ghent, because here you can find various delicious and cozy restaurants.
The Nonam Boutique Hotel is housed in a beautiful historic building dating back to 1739. It has been completely transformed into a luxurious and elegant boutique hotel with 10 rooms, a restaurant and a wine bar. Each room, where the casual-chic experience is central, is unique.
Where you’re stayin here, definitely enjoy a delicious apéro in the wine bar. For lunch or dinner with a gastronomic twist, you absolutely must try the Nonam restaurant.
5. Van der Valk Hotel Gent
This modern and new hotel , which is part of the famous Van der Valk chain, is situated just outside the city. The advantage of this is parking space at the hotel. Moreover, the center of Ghent is easily accessible by public transport.
In addition to parking space, the Van der Valk hotel in Ghent has a number of other great assets such as a fitness room, a wellness area and a fantastic sky bar on the 10th floor with a panoramic view of the city. Not to mention the modern and luxuriously furnished rooms. You can choose from comfort rooms, deluxe rooms and suites. My favorite is the jungle suite.
In restaurant Cocotte you can enjoy classic European cuisine with an Asian twist. There is also a brasserie where you can try some local beers.

The name Pillows Grand boutique hotel Reylof may sound familiar to you? This hotel is part of a series of exclusive hotels in big Belgian and Holland cities. The Pillows Grand boutique hotel Reylof in Ghent is located 500 m from the historic center of Ghent and therefore has the perfect location for a weekend getaway in Ghent.
The impressive, 17th-century building in which the hotel is located is an eye-catcher in itself. The interior consists of a mix of modern design and authentic elements and radiates elegance and luxury at its best.
The building opens onto a cozy courtyard where you can enjoy the terrace when the weather is good. For a drink you can take a seat in The Living bar. Don’t forget to taste one of the culinary creations of chef Hannes Vandenboter in the Lof Restaurant. Most importantly, there’s a wellness area with sauna and swimming pool where you can relax after a busy day exploring the city. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Do you want to stay in an absolute unique accommodation? That’s possible at Monasterium PoortAckere. This hotel is housed in a 19th-century neo-Gothic monastery.
Immerse yourself in the past and explore the corridors and common areas. There you will find many special, authentic elements. For example, breakfast is served in the Kappitelzaal. This was the room where monks gathered to be taught or to pray with each other. Fascinating right? The rooms are modernly furnished and equipped with all modern comforts.

If you would like to experience the historic atmosphere of Ghent during your stay, you should definitely stay at the charming hotel Hancelot. This hotel is housed in a beautiful mansion built in 1840 by a baron. In the meantime, the building underwent a thorough renovation, but the authentic character was preserved as much as possible.
Elegant, antique furniture was also chosen for the interior of the hotel, which gives you the feeling that you traveled back in time. In addition, you of course have all modern comforts such as WIFI, … There is even a fitness room, and not unimportantly a parking space.
